Seven months earlier, my only brother, a veteran of the Marine Corps, had died by suicide—he’d been prescribed lithium and his life had followed a precipitous descent since taking the drug.

Happy Labor Day 2024

More labor like I am used to seeing it in the upper Midwest. In keeping with the tradition of previous labor days - this is my annual greeting. I started writing these Labor Day greetings as an update on the work environment for physicians. My rationale is that over my nearly 40 years in medicine that environment has continuously deteriorated. Like any field there have been obvious improvements and innovation in clinical care along the way.
