A few months ago, I attended a live Zoom event on Guidely with Dr. Gabor Maté, author of The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing in a Toxic Culture. I believed my alcoholism was genetic and treated it as a spiritual malady. Six years ago, after my second wife died, I found a new career in mental health care.
