I knew in October of 2018 that Matt was in trouble during a phone call, when he told me in a cheerful voice that he had been to the ER for “mental health reasons” but was “fine.” In October 2019, during Matt’s move to a new apartment, I observed that Matt was emotionally paralyzed, unable to pack from lack of sleep.

I always wanted and still want to help children and adolescents who are going through the things I went through when I was at their age. During my first episode of schizophrenia in 2019, I was taken to our pastor by my mother, sister and a few church members for prayer. I called my mother a witch and I had insomnia with poor appetite.

My sister took antidepressants and my family has a lot of mental health issues, so based on that, I was thrown into the same category. I started talking fast, coming up with ideas and creative projects and I stopped sleeping. They said if I didn’t go to sleep they would make me. And they did. I was angry.
