Then, finally, technology offered a solution: insurmountably high fences and surveillance cameras. The suicides seemed to trigger a general darkening in the mood at the schools. Was it the increase in cell phone use starting in 2007? Nearly a dozen Palo Alto teens died this way. It was terrible when the kids died.
